Don Howerter, R-22 replacement expert

Don Howerter of Ruyle Mechanical Services, Inc. served as an instructor for the week long UA Instructor Training Program at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor Michigan.
Mr. Howerter’s class focused on Section 608 of the Clean Air Act: Stationary Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Mr. Howerter assisted the UA in revising and writing their newest exam on refrigerant subject matter.
The UA Instructor Training Program class name was Comprehensive Refrigerant Management and Safety, EPA Proposed Rule Changes, New Refrigerants. His curriculum included reviewing the EPA proposed rule changes to the Clean Air Act in reference to the phase out of HCFC’s and the introduction of the numerous replacement refrigerants that have come into the market. He also reviewed safety in handling refrigerants and best practices.
The UA’s Instructor Training Program is considered one of the most successful skills training programs in North America. Apprenticeship instructors from the Plumbers, Pipefitters, Sprinklerfitters, Steamfitters and Service Techs from across the United States gather in Ann Arbor, Michigan once a year for an intense week-long training to learn the most modern skill sets needed to train the next generation.
